Title:

Osteopathic Manual Treatment (OMT) and micronutrients in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME) - A randomized controlled trial, Sibylle Graf

In order to obtain the MSc Osteopathy degree, I would like to find out whether osteopathy and micronutrients can have an effect on fatigue/exhaustion in people with CFS/ME.

Do you know people with this problem?
I am looking for participants between the ages of 18 and 60 who have had this diagnosis for at least 6 months and have not had any osteopathic treatment in the last 3 months.

The data is collected by means of a weekly questionnaire. The participants are divided into 4 groups to record the effect of osteopathy and micronutrients compared to the control group.

An initial assessment, 4 weekly osteopathy sessions and 8 weeks of micronutrient intake are the main part of the study.

Participation is free of charge and you can register by booking an appointment.

More information on the topic and study design:

What is ME?
In simple terms, myalgic encephalomyelitis is defined by the following main symptoms: persistent fatigue, post-exertional malaise (PEM), pain, sleep disorders and various other sub-symptoms.

Basis for the study, study design?
To investigate is whether osteopathy alone or in combination with micronutrients has a positive effect on fatigue and tiredness in patients with CFS/ME, compared with placebo.
40 subjects will be randomised into 4 groups:
- Osteopathy and micronutrients
- Osteopathy and placebo
- Control group and micronutrients
- Control group and placebo

The combination of osteopathy and micronutrients appears to be a novelty and the research is promising. In order to boost the energy power plants in our body, the mitochondria, the two micronutrients coenzyme Q10 and NAD are mainly being investigated. Both substances showed significant improvements in fatigue in the study by Castro-Marrero et al. from 2015 In combination with the osteopathic approach of releasing blockages in the body and stimulating the lymph flow with Raymond Perrin's Techniquen®, the aim is to boost the body's detoxification performance. The osteopathic approach is also intended to improve digestive performance via the vagus nerve and the intestines.
